It's my birthday next week so my parents decided to take a trip to Bath and take me out for lunch. Although the Olive Tree is overly formal and doesn't possess much of an atmosphere, they do serve up the best food in Bath. Having hit the pillow at 6AM on Saturday morning and only having three partial hours of sleep before the parents arrived, this meal was not at an ideal time! Hence the lemongrass and ginger tea and an orange juice in the background of the photo... Firstly, we tucked into mackerel with avocado and cucumber. It was a solid dish and even my best mate Ovo, a non fish eater, enjoyed it!
Next up on the menu was a spelt risotto with truffle and ham. Also, featuring a cheese ice cream. At this point the hangover was really starting to thump through my veins. Bare in mind Ovo being the top boi he is carried me home only five hours ago! Hence, a risotto was just what the Dr ordered. A hearty, creamy and cheesy dish that really hit the spot and allowed me to perk up a bit. The Olive Tree might be a great restaurant, but it would also make a magical NHS clinic, as they really know how to nurse hungover students.

Hold tight and stop your engines. These amuse-bouche's were absolutely incredible. A savoury profiterole that was coated with truffle and stuffed inside the delightful pastry was a creamy blue cheese. I was pretty heartbroken at the fact I was limited to just one. Truly a match made in heaven! @olivetreebath
Ooooft this duck breast was cooked to perfection. A crispy skin on top and the meat perfectly pink and tender. Served with a slightly pickled parsley root to cut through the richness of the duck breast, it was fantastic. The meal started to evolve at this point into some sort of family comedy. Dad as per usual was cracking jokes left right and centre, I'm not what to say to be honest. But, Ovo was getting some terrible girl advice. Apparently it's fundamental to have a heart like a brick when engaging with the opposite sex. That way you don't get hurt in anyway and always come out on top. Interesting... I think he's been out the game too long to be honest.

The desert came out and it was a peanut parfait with chocolate and salted caramel. I was slightly confused as to why there was a tree on the plate. However, five days later it finally clicked...The Olive'tree'....might have something to do with it. This concluded my third visit to The Olivetree and it's fair to say every time I've been the food has been on point. Though, I was slightly sad that the place still lacks an atmosphere.
