Amazing memories and recent hesitations: The Scallop Shell, Bath
Having recently moved back to Bath there was only one restaurant on my mind and that was The Scallop Shell. Living in Bath previously for a couple of years I fell in love with this place and have raved about it to family and friends. Thus, I immediately set my eyes on returning. Frustratingly the restaurant remains walk-ins only. So after a fourty minute wait we were absolutely famished (you can put your name down and go for a drink in Bath). Opening the door to the restaurant you are greeted by what appears to be a scene from a fish and chip shop. Though, in reality it's more of a restaurant. Moving around the corner there is an appropriately chosen bath full of fresh fish! This sent my appetite spiralling out of control and rekindled numerous memories.

The first course came out and we shared a delicate and tasty crab. So fresh and delicious. However, things went slightly down hill from there. We anxiously waited for our second course to arrive for about 30 minutes. At this point we were starving and something seemed off. I headed up to the counter where you order and they assured me that the main was almost ready. This unfortunately was not the case. We waited about another fifteen minutes whilst dishes went flying out. Then one of the managers came over to apologise about a mix up and brought us some complementary wine and bread. I like to see that as too many restaurants these days fail to acknowledge their mistakes in the form of an apology. The food arrived shortly after and it the first time I'd had monkfish deep fried. I was intrigued and it truly was outstanding. Yes the wait tarnished the meal. But, as always at The Scallop Shell the food was on point. I will return again shortly and I hope to see an improvement in the service.
Dining tips: -Share multiple dishes - If you want to get a table straight away arrive pre 7:00pm or after 8:30pm. |
